Chris Moore III, a Music Performance major with a minor in Political Science on the pre-law track at the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, has been selected for a Capitol Hill internship with Congressman Shomari Figures, Representative of Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, beginning this January. Congressman Figures’ election marked a historic moment, as Alabama sent two Black representatives to Congress simultaneously for the first time.

As an aspiring criminal defense attorney, Moore sees the internship as a meaningful step toward aligning policy, justice, and public service. He shared:

"As an aspiring criminal defense attorney, this Capitol Hill internship will allow me to better understand how policy creation can help ensure that underrepresented Black men, women, and teenagers receive fair treatment within the justice system. Having witnessed firsthand how race and socioeconomic status can influence legal outcomes, I am excited to learn, collaborate, and contribute to meaningful change through public service."

During his internship, Moore will draft constituent correspondence, lead Capitol Hill tours, and conduct legislative research, gaining hands-on experience in the legislative process. A leader within CABCoFA as Secretary of the Student Council, his achievement reflects the College’s commitment to cultivating artists and scholars whose creative, intellectual, and civic pursuits extend beyond the classroom and into meaningful public impact.
