RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach solo jazz voice to undergraduate majors; teach courses in beginning, intermediate or advanced vocal improvisation; direct vocal jazz ensemble(s), teach vocal arranging (for solo voice w/rhythm, as well as vocal ensemble), advise undergraduate jazz voice majors; assist with recruitment activities and auditions. Fulfilling faculty expectations associated with traditional university service appointments encouraged by volunteer status.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Music; artist-level performance in jazz voice including vocal improvisation (scat singing); intermediate piano or keyboard skills; advanced knowledge of vocal pedagogy; demonstrated success in teaching jazz courses at the college or secondary level and evidence of effective oral and written communication skills.

We seek an artist/educator with equal experience in musical theatre and incorporating inclusive and forward moving andragogies in our classrooms.
The Musical Theatre area of concentration produces professional, artist/scholars who have the ability to excel on any theatrical stage, including, but not limited to, Broadway, Off-Broadway, touring, regional, international, cabaret and concert, both major and minor, commercial and not-for-profit. The program asserts that beginning with intense self-discovery and exploration, matched with dedicated focus on foundational technique, followed by an unyielding diligence towards artistic and scholarly excellence, produces creative, high-quality artists. The program works to facilitate not just the creation of performers who are highly skilled technicians of singing, dancing and acting but passionate artists with a deep respect for the craft who use musical theatre to communicate with audiences about our shared human condition.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both performance and musical theatre performance/directing, who can teach a range of performance and musical theatre courses, and possess who possesses a passion for working collaboratively. This person will direct the Musical Theatre program and will continue to strengthen the major. Significant professional and teaching experience and a commitment to working in theatre, music, and dance are essential.
Duties primarily include:
Administrative duties – the capacity to serve as Area Coordinator responsible for area: curriculum assessment and development; recommend course scheduling; academic advisement; student records maintenance; on-going academic performance assessment for the concentration; student academic advisement; season planning recommendations, including master-class recommendations; helping students with problems associated with registration, classes, rehearsals and performances; acting as spokesperson for the area; coordinating faculty around juries and other area-wide student assessments; consulting with faculty members about their ideas and suggesting solutions for area issues; student recruitment; student matriculation; area faculty management; and area faculty recruitment recommendations.
Instructional duties – teaching courses in the musical theatre and other relevant areas within the Department of Theatre Arts with a minimum/maximum workload of 15/18 credit hours per academic year.
Research Scholarship and Creative duties – pursuing professional growth through funded research, scholarly writing, advanced study and/or original creative production on-campus appropriate to the discipline of musical theatre.

We seek candidates with demonstrated success as a performing artist, and dance pedagogue who possess expertise in a codified dance style, movement, or technique in one or more forms including, but not limited to: African, Afro-Fusion forms, Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Jazz. Duties:
The successful applicant will teach a 4 course per semester load with an initial contract of up to 3 years for the probationary career-status track .Responsibilities will include co-chairing the dance area, teaching courses at the undergraduate level in the department’s dance program curricula; directing undergraduate concerts; mentoring and advising undergraduate students; participating in departmental activities, and college and university administrative service.

SUBJECT TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Under the SEIU full-time Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement unit, applicants will be invited to apply internally for the “Temporary” or “Probationary Career Status-Track” Lecturer position. The terms and qualifications are as follows:
TEMPORARY: Requires the candidate to serve a 1-year or 1-semester term, for which there is a 7-year time limit. The lecturer will instruct 4/4 courseload (but at least 12 credits/semester), advising students at the collegiate level. There is no Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) requirement.
PROBATIONARY CAREER STATUS-TRACK: Requires the candidate to serve a 3-year term, for which there is a probationary period of 6 years (2 terms) before applying for the next ranking “Senior Lecturer” position. The lecturer will instruct 12 credits per semester, advising students at the collegiate level. Submission of a written statement of teaching philosophy and a) at least one peer reviewed publication engaging in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) appropriate to the Lecturer’s discipline or b) a creative work appropriate to the discipline, all as determined by Tenured faculty. This does not include a master’s thesis or dissertation. Terminal degree is required for this track.

- A minimum of 3 years of college teaching experience, 4 years of professional experience, and administrative experience at the university/college level.

- Who possess a strong track record as a choreographer and movement researcher/practitioner

The Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University (www.finearts.howard.edu) seeks applications for a full-time Lecturer, temporary, faculty position in the nationally renowned Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Theatre Arts – Musical Theatre program to teach voice and vocal technique and serve as the co-coordinator for the Musical Theatre area. We are seeking candidates who have demonstrated success as performing vocal and musical theatre artists. The ideal candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of voice pedagogy, with expertise in vocal stylings, breathing techniques, vocal health, and vocal anatomy. Furthermore, the candidate must exhibit strong musical skills grounded in music theory, ear training, and sight singing. Additional qualifications include interdisciplinary experience within academia and versatility in various roles within the domains of musical theatre and voice. A passionate commitment to incorporating current and evolving styles, techniques, technologies, trends, scholarship, and pedagogical practices in voice and musical theatre is essential.

The successful candidate is expected to be able to:
- Instruct major-level vocal technique courses for undergraduate students across all classifications, ranging from freshmen to seniors
- Teach musical theatre major’s courses in topics such as aural skills, music theory, ear training, sight singing, and voice for musical theatre
- Mentor and advise students
- Recruit and retain high-level undergraduate students
- Facilitate the ongoing advancement and achievement of the program by demonstrating leadership in both teaching and service
- Foster and advance the ongoing growth and enhancement of exemplary academic curricula within undergraduate programs
Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching two courses per semester and managing a private voice studio comprising of eight students. Key responsibilities will include co-coordinating the musical theatre area, delivering undergraduate-level courses within the department’s musical theatre program curriculum, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, and participating in departmental activities as well as college and university administrative services.

SUBJECT TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Under the SEIU full-time Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement unit, applicants will be invited to apply internally for the “Temporary” Lecturer position. The terms and qualifications are as follows:
TEMPORARY: Requires the candidate to serve a 1-year or 1-semester term, for which there is a 7-year time limit. The lecturer will instruct 4/4 courseload (but at least 12 credits/semester), advising students at the collegiate level. There is no Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) requirement.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications (at time of application)
- A terminal degree MFA or PhD in Music/Musical Theatre or related discipline preferred and completed by date of employment (or equivalent international degree); or extensive professional experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of college teaching experience, 4 years of professional experience, and administrative experience at the university/college level.
Preferred qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates:
- Possessing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or an equivalent international degree, accompanied by extensive professional experience.
- Demonstrating experience in college teaching and the capacity to engage effectively with a diverse community across various disciplines, thereby contributing to a dynamic theoretical and practical curriculum.
- Exhibiting proven skills in administration, artistic mentorship, and production.
- Maintaining an active agenda in creative and research endeavors, with the ability to enhance the national and international profile of the department.
