Meet the Artist: Mark Batson | Howard University x Capital Music Network

The Department of Music within the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts at Howard University is pleased to present Capital Music Network’s (CMN’s) Meet the Artist series, powered by Distrik Kollective, and featured through Inside the Craft, a CMN podcast series. The first six episodes feature Howard University alumnus, classically trained pianist, legendary producer, and award-winning songwriter Mark Batson.

This past spring, students and faculty gathered in the Recital Hall of Childers Hall for a candid and instructive live-streamed conversation with Batson, who joined the Howard community virtually from Los Angeles. Interviewed by Candy Shannon of WPFW, Batson discussed his upbringing, his experience at Howard, his creative process, and the defining moments that shaped his remarkable career in the music industry.

Across the six-part series, Batson offers thoughtful insight into artistry, collaboration, ownership, creative longevity, and navigating the business of music at the highest levels, offering students and emerging creatives both inspiration and practical guidance.
