89th Annual Student Show Submissions

SHOWCASE YOUR BEST WORK

Submit your highest quality work and you too can be a part of Howard University history!

All undergraduate and graduate Department of Art majors in all concentrations are invited to participate in the forthcoming juried art exhibition. Minors, who are currently registered for art classes in the Art Department, must request permission from the department chairperson.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Works submitted should be previously unshown in the Gallery and produced while attending Howard University.

TWO (2) WORKS OF ART should be submitted per student.
AT LEAST ONE OF THESE MUST BE IN YOUR MAJOR.

Submission dates are forthcoming!
All works must be submitted by the student artists. Professors cannot submit work on students’ behalf.

Exhibition Labels must be completed and attached (taped) to the back of each work for proper labeling.
Registration Form must be completed by the artist and submitted to the Gallery staff.

All submissions must be exhibition-ready for judging. Paintings should be framed or the edges of canvases painted if exposed. Hanging apparatus must be included in the correct position. Two-dimensional works should be matted and/or framed, also with appropriate hanging apparatus.

Artworks in a series (size and number) will be reviewed, but acceptance might be limited due to Gallery space and number of participants. Oversized works must be brought to the attention of the Gallery staff before submission. Students are required to obtain the computers, pedestals and/or dress forms necessary for the presentation of their work. The juror will make a special off-site visit to the sculpture studio to judge large or complex assemblages too difficult for transport.

The Gallery reserves the right not to accept any artwork deemed sexually explicit or that includes inappropriate text.

There will be no exceptions to these guidelines.

JURYING & WINNERS

Works will be juried at a time to be given in February. An artist/professional from the metropolitan community will be invited to serve as the judge. Certificates will be given for all first and second place winners as well as an honorable mention category (graduate and undergraduate).

SALE OF WORK

Students may sell works accepted for the exhibition. All sales/profits go totally to the student. For more information, please see Mr. Scott Baker, Assistant Director, Gallery of Art.
