Citywide Celebration of the 130th Anniversary of Alma Thomas's Birth on September 22-26
Acclaimed artist Alma Thomas (1891-1978) was the first person to receive a degree from the Howard University Department of Art. In a citywide celebration of the 130th anniversary of her birth, the National Gallery of Art is hosting the John Wilmerding Symposium on American Art and Community Celebration in conjunction with the exhibition, Alma W. Thomas: Everything is Beautiful (The Phillips Collection), and American University’s Feminist Art History Conference. On September 23, 3-4:30PM, Professor Melanee Harvey will present on The Nation's Capital in the Time of Alma Thomas.
