The “Africana Americanxs In Transit Across the Black Kairibe” features over 30 works of art and films from the Howard University Gallery of Art Collection and contemporary African Caribbean diaspora artists. The curatorial project presents a continental history of Black diaspora subjectivity in the legacy of Howard University professor, philosopher, scholar, and cultural activist Dr. Alain L. Locke and the artistic representation of the Black Caribbean as visual culture for ancestral connectivity and Global Africa futurity.
Artists included are Lois Mailou Jones, Romare Bearden, William Edouard Scott, Elizabeth Catlett, Eldzier Cortor, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Wifrido Lam, Norman Lewis, Keith Morrison, Petion Savain, Richmond Barthé, Teodoro Ramos Blanco, Augusta Sauvage, Coco Fusco, Tomas Allen Harris, Billy Gerard Frank, Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, Pau Mar, and Sergio Sanchez Santamaria.
“Africana Americanxs In Transit Across the Black Kairibe” is organized by Howard University Gallery of Art and the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.

Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts Welcomes New Dean

Dr. Raquel Monroe, the newly appointed dean of the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts (COFA), brings her experience from the University of Texas to Howard University and aims to help young Black artists thrive.
“Dr. Monroe brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Howard University, joining us from the University of Texas at Austin, where she served as a full professor and associate dean of graduate education and academic affairs within the College of Fine Arts,” according to a Howard University LinkedIn post.
For Monroe, working at Howard was a dream – one that she never even knew was possible.
“When the opportunity presented itself, I just felt compelled to throw my hat in the ring and go for it,” Monroe said. She says, “Working at Howard is a dream, a dream I never knew was possible.”
