Washington, D.C. – The Howard University Republic of South Africa Project (HURSAP) and the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts (CABCOFA) are proud to present Diaspora Dialogues: A Fireside Chat with Dr. John Kani, featuring the celebrated South African playwright and actor. This unique event will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Childers Hall, Recital Hall Room 3001, located at 2455 Sixth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20059.
Dr. John Kani, world- renowned South African actor, playwright, activist and director is one of the most influential voices in contemporary theatre and to explore the vital role of art in social change, activism, and cultural exchange. Moderated by Howard University’s Resident Griot, Amadou Kouyate, this conversation will delve into Dr. Kani’s journey as a storyteller, his impact on global narratives, and the broader cultural significance of the African Diaspora.. It will explore how South African theatre intersects with African American narratives, emphasizing shared historical experiences and the role of art in activism.
