Howard University Dance Program Students

HOWARD UNIVERSITY CHADWICK A. BOSEMAN COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS PRE-PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS TO PERFORM
DWIGHT RHODEN'S ICONIC WORK

'BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL'

ONE NIGHT ONLY!

We are thrilled to announce that pre-professional students from Howard University's Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts will perform the iconic work Black is Beautiful by Principal Choreographer and Co-Artistic Director Dwight Rhoden on the opening night of our 29th Anniversary Season at The Joyce Theater in New York City. This will mark the very first time that a dance ensemble from an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) will perform at The Joyce since it first opened over four decades ago.

This is the second year of our strategic partnership with Howard, the first HBCU to offer a BFA dance major. Last season, 25 Howard students participated in a three-week intensive through our Complexions Academy (Meg Paul, Director) at the invitation of Tony and Grammy Award winning Actress Dean Phylicia Rashad and Denise SaundersAssistant Dean for Administration. Led by co-founding Artistic Director Desmond Richardson, with assistance from former company member Larissa Gertszke, the students underwent a rigorous residency audition process, culminating in an exciting and inspiring final performance in a shared program with Complexions’ performing company. Their upcoming debut at the Joyce Theater will leave you in awe!

We hope you will join us on November 14th.
