Fine Arts Celebration Tour

Celebrating The Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts and Inaugural Dean Phylicia Rashad

Welcome to the Howard University Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts Celebration Tour, a transformative initiative poised to shape the future of artistic brilliance, cultural heritage preservation, and academic excellence. Under the banner of "Elevate Creativity, Amplify Impact," this fundraising campaign seeks to secure essential capital funds to propel the College of Fine Arts to new heights.

At the heart of this campaign lies a vision to fortify the College of Fine Arts as a global leader in the arts, fostering a vibrant community of creative minds who are not only skilled in their craft but also deeply connected to their cultural heritage. We envision an environment where artistic expression transcends boundaries, where innovation and tradition coalesce, and where each brushstroke, note, and step contributes to the rich tapestry of human experience.

The College of Fine Arts plays a pivotal role in nurturing and honing the creative talents of our students, providing them with a platform to express themselves through various forms of art. However, as we strive to maintain and enhance the quality of education and resources available to our students, we find ourselves facing certain challenges that require immediate attention and support.

Key Funding Priorities: Building Tomorrow’s Artistic Legacy

Student Support and College-to-Career Success

Funding Priority #1

We believe in providing our students with real-world experiences and global perspectives. The college offers a comprehensive range of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, music, theatre, dance, and more. Our graduates have a distinct edge in the job market due to our focus on advanced research, specialized programs, and comprehensive fine arts opportunities that transcend traditional classroom learning. Students receive a rigorous arts experience with distinguished faculty and dedicated staff. Alumni from our College have received national attention and critical acclaim for their talents and contributions in the fine and performing arts fields.

Supporting students through privately funded scholarships enables the College of Fine Arts to attract the most academically talented students with exceptional talent. College-to-career programs such as Study Abroad, Internships, or Fellowships are designed to prepare every Fine Arts student for career success through experiential learning.

Innovation in Creative Practice and Research

Funding Priority #2

The Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts encourages innovation and research within the arts. Faculty, students, staff and alum engage in groundbreaking scholarly research and creative practice pushing the boundaries of traditional artistic norms, allowing them to engage in projects that contribute to the evolution of their respective fields. Intellectual freedom combined with innovative work that challenges traditional approaches to solving problems result in the product of a creative endeavor. At Howard University, the process of creative practice research is where specific research questions and creative endeavors are explored.

Inaugural named, endowed professorships, and visiting professorships provide the College with the resources to recruit top faculty who develop and lead world-class educational programs.

Center for Fine Arts and Communications

Funding Priority #3

We aim to enhance and expand our facilities, providing students with cutting-edge studios, performance spaces, and technology. A new state-of-the-art facility that will house the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts, the Cathy Hughes School of Communications will not only inspire creativity but also facilitate the exploration of new artistic frontiers. The new facility will offer a variety of venues suitable for academic sessions, art exhibits, receptions, theatrical and musical performances, television studios, media laboratories, fundraisers and public events.

The Center for Fine Arts and Communications will be located on the northern part of Howard’s 256-acre Washington campus, situated behind Lulu Vere Childers Hall, which houses the Departments of Art, Music and Theatre Arts, and the Office of Choirs and Bands, and Gallery of Art.

The "Elevate Creativity, Amplify Impact" campaign is an invitation to all who believe in the power of the arts to shape a brighter future. Your support is not just an investment in the College of Fine Arts; it's an investment in the artists, visionaries, and cultural leaders of tomorrow.

As we embark on this transformative journey, we invite you to be a part of our legacy, contributing to the elevation of artistic expression and cultural empowerment. Together, let's paint a future where the arts flourish, and each stroke of creativity leaves an indelible mark on the world.
