New Acquisitions & African American Masters features a selection of works from the permanent collection, including recent acquisitions from the Lois Mailou Jones, James A. Porter, and Ronald W. and Patricia Walters collections. The artworks hail from the 19th to 21st centuries and have been carefully selected to complement one another and highlight the best of each collection. The artists represent a veritable Who’s Who of African American art. Curated by Mr. Scott Baker with support from Registrar, Dr. Abby Eron and Gallery Director, Dr. Lisa Farrington, this exhibit celebrates the depth and breadth of the Howard University art collection, which has grown exponentially in recent years thanks to generous gifts from artist and patrons, and in no small measure to the support of Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick, President of Howard University, whose commitment to the arts has allowed for this growth.
